MISS NEWCASTLE: MONET GRANT

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

We got the chance to catch up with the newly crowned Miss Newcastle, Monet Grant. Find out about her background, her plans as Miss Newcastle and how she feels about joining Team TTM…

Tell us a little bit about you…

I am currently studying Interior Design at Salford University, in my spare time I like to create bespoke items both at home and in the University workshops. When I’m at home in the North East I work part-time in a private day nursery in Chester-Le-Street. My creative streak is always being put to the test especially at work, usually I’m tasked with creating unique display boards, fun games and themed areas to amuse the children and spark their imaginations.

A few years ago, before I turned 18 I raised £5k through doing various themed nights, craft stalls and bag packs, the money went towards a trip to India where I helped to build facilities in a school, worked closely with the children, taught them the importance of hygiene and trekked around the mountains. Towards the end of the trip myself and the rest of my team gave away our clothes and equipment to the children and sherpers who needed them more than us.

How did it feel when you won Miss Newcastle?

I was not expecting my name to be called out and when it was I was in complete shock and honestly lost for words! Just when I thought my amazing journey was coming to end it turned out it was only just beginning. I genuinely wasn’t expecting to win as there were so many beautiful, incredible and deserving girls in the competition that all deserved the title, each one with a different unique story and deserving story.
I still don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet, but I can’t wait to get started with the next steps of my journey.

What do you hope to do/achieve in your year as Miss Newcastle?

With this platform I’m hoping to increase awareness of various children’s charities which have always had a special place in my heart, as-well-as raise awareness for the causes Miss Newcastle and Miss England have supported over the years past, present and future.

Tell us about your fundraising for the Miss Newcastle Final?

I enjoyed every single step of my Miss Newcastle journey and being an ambassador for The Sunshine Fund. During my Miss Newcastle journey I worked hard to raise as much awareness and donations as possible. I raised money in all sorts of different ways and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one and appreciated the people who gave me their time and money whilst I bag packed at various supermarkets, collected at events such as the Gosforth Races and Gateshead Beer Festival, hosted raffles, put on numerous Sunflower themed bake sales to spread a little sunshine and a Masquerade event. I loved meeting so many interesting people and enjoyed every interaction with the many characters I met on my journey, I really enjoyed talking to people and helping spread the word about the good work the Sunshine Fund does. I wouldn’t have entered Miss Newcastle if it was simply a pageant based on beauty alone, I truly enjoyed raising money for the Sunshine Fund and I was just so happy to have been introduced to such a deserving charity that I will continue to support.

We are very excited to welcome you to TTM Management’s books. What do you hope to achieve as a model?

I have always wanted to be a model from a young age, now I can’t believe I am going to be signed with TTM. I want to be a body positive model and inspire young girls to embrace their bodies regardless of size, height or type.

Your biggest celebrity crush is?

Growing up all of my friends had celebrity crushes such as Justin Bieber, members from JLS etc... and I never really had one, I do love Ed Sheeran’s music but that would be it. If I had to say someone it would Dwayne Jonson (The Rock) I don’t know why but I love all the films he is in and he is one of the only celebrities I follow on Instagram. I think I like the fact he doesn’t take himself too seriously and is happy to make fun of himself.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it would be?

In the future I hope I am fortunate enough to travel the world with my job as an Interior Designer and create bespoke interiors for hotels. I have been offered the opportunity to go back to India to volunteer at the school I helped in and also to work at the elephant SOS centre for 6 months at a time of my choosing.

It’s on my bucket list to travel around Bali, work with animals and discover lost cities around the world.

Your dream brand to work for would be?

I am just happy and excited to be a part of the Tyne Tees Models team and I am looking forward to any work that comes my way.

In my wildest dreams I’d love to walk on a catwalk in Paris or be featured in a high-end magazine. I’m a big fan of Gucci, Chanel and makeup brands YSL and Kat Von D.
