By Vicky Turner.
In the world of modelling there’s a number of factors that can go wrong and cause a few hiccups. From your mobile phone battery dying on the way to a casting, to shooting outdoors in terrible weather conditions where your makeup can come off in a matter of minutes. Over the past year and a half, I’ve picked up a few solutions that have helped to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible (well on my part anyway) and these can all be kept in your bag!
Lipsticks
Endless lipsticks. I’m a bit of a lipstick fiend so I will carry three or four in my bag at once and the chances are I’ll only use one at a time and I’ll run it down to a little stump. My favourite lipsticks are Mac’s ‘Yash’ and ‘Taupe’. They’re both nude shades so great for just adding a bit of colour to my lips for castings and adding that extra pop.
Diary
I always keep my diary to hand in my bag. I’m constantly juggling modelling with university, my job at Topman and my promotions job in town. I’m a bit of a ditzy person so if I don’t have my diary on me I’d be constantly guessing the days I have free. It’s a bit old school but I’m a visual person so seeing it down on paper makes it a lot easier for me to remember my schedule.
Refreshments
For me it’s essential I have a bottle of water and a snack with me. My days constantly change so I never know when I’m going to sit down for a big meal so I’ll bring a few snacks to keep me going. I always try and keep hydrated too so having a bottle of water in my bag is always handy.
Make Up
I like having a little kit of makeup with me even if I know makeup is provided for a shoot. It’s very rare but if the makeup artist doesn’t turn up I know I can quickly put on a base layer of makeup and the shoot will still go ahead.

Phone and Charger
My phone charger goes with me everywhere I go. On the breaks of shoots I always go on my phone either to do uni work or to check my social media so it quickly drains the battery.
Perfume
I love having a bottle of perfume in my bag, my favourite scents at the minute are Chance Chanel Eau fraiche and Paco Robanne’s Olympea. I often put it on as soon as I get up as if I’m wearing clothes by a designer I don’t want leaving a perfume smell on them.
Underwear (yes, you heard it right)
People often look at me funny if they’re searching for something in my bag, but I always carry a spare pair of nude underwear. I’ll always wear nude underwear to a shoot but sometimes they aren’t exactly right so I’ll always carry spares in case.
Purse!
My purse is an obvious choice. The amount of times I’ve been on the way to a shoot and I’ve had an empty tank of petrol and I’m so glad I’ve had my purse on me!

And this week the Pink Lane based salon took on other salons from York, Leeds, Hull, Middlesborough, Sheffield, Durham, Darlington and Sunderland in the Regional Finals of the prestigious L’Oréal awards… and won!
Tyne Tees Models team member and model Cait Apps sported the competition-winning hairstyle that left every other salon from every other city in her wake.
See you in London…
At Sisters will now compete in the National Final of The Loréal Colour Trophy, the longest running live hairdressing competition in the world, in London later this year.
“We’re over the moon to be putting a small family business on the map at such a high level,” said Claire Hildreth, who had previously been an ID Artist for L’Oreal.
And Tyne Tees Models Founder Lesley Middlemiss Lister is pleased to have been involved in the success too. Lesley noted:
“The spotlight here is firmly on At Sisters – such a great salon and such a great business. Their team has a really clear vision as they are driven to make sure every single At Sisters client leaves their salon feeling revitalised, refreshed & totally satisfied.
"My job as the Founder of the North East’s biggest modelling agency is to make sure all our models understand the client vision too. Whether we are modelling amazing hairstyles, launching clothing lines for internationally recognised brands or playing a key role in an International fashion show – it is all about the client's goals.
The precise goal here? To win! And that’s what happened. We’re delighted."

We find that representing children can be really refreshing and rewarding. Our junior models tend to stay with us for numerous years and it’s great to see the confidence boost and social skills that children can gain. Modelling can also give an insight into the creative industries and prove to be a stepping stone into the creative sector.
To mark the reopening of our books to kids, we thought we’d give you a bit of advice in case you know anyone wanting to apply!

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions to give you a bit of information:
FAQ’s:
How do I apply?
To register your child we ask you to complete the online application. This includes two simple clear shots, and basic information and contact details.
If we are interested we will invite you to a test shoot to meet you and see whether your child is comfortable in shoot situation. The images taken will be used to represent your child and will be sent to you to keep. We ensure that all of our younger models are really enthusiastic and eager to be involved. We look for children who are well behaved and can take direction well. It’s important that they get on well with other children and have a positive outlook.

Does my child need a license to work?
Yes! It is required by law that they have a license to work however this will be further explained to you if your child is invited to a test shoot where there will be additional paper work to fill out.
How much will my child get paid?
This is a tricky question as it all depends on how long, who it’s for and what’s the usage of the images but it is generally around twenty five pounds per hour.

Does my child need a chaperone?
Yes, a legal guardian is classed as a chaperone but in most cases the client prefers the chaperone to be a parent.
What kind of images can I apply with?
We ask applicants to send two clear head shots. These can even be taken with a good quality phone camera, they don’t need to be professional images! When booking junior models, it’s vital that we ensure our clients can see an up-to-date image of their chosen model so we ask for up-to-date images of our models regularly.
We hope this has helped but if you still have any questions please don’t hesitate to visit our website for more information.

Our client wanted models to help promote their bus services so the public were aware of how much better it is to think about not driving their car to work.
On the front cover is Afnan and inside the brochure is Joseph and Andrea.
The brochure even features some tear off tickets which allows the leaflet owner a free day ticket which they just need to hand over to the bus driver.
So you don't just get to look at pretty people, you get a free bus ticket too!

A potential paying client is without a doubt more willing to spend their budget on a model who has lots of experience in their portfolio (whether paid or not). A bare or minimal portfolio only appears like the model isn’t working very much or is difficult to work with. A full portfolio shows the model is obviously very reliable and good at what they do.
Think of your modelling career like a brand, the more work and the more of yourself there is for potential clients to see, the more established you look and all the more reason for someone to ‘invest’ in your brand.
It’s also a great way to gain contacts! You may be working for free this time, but the client may be given a larger budget next time and be able to pay for their model. They do say… ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’.
At Tyne Tees Models we feel we only set up trades of equal value and don’t pair experienced models with unexperienced photographers and vice-versa. We like to give everyone equal opportunity to boost their career and gain the contacts they can use to their advantage in the future. We very often have photographers or clients come back to us requesting models that have previously worked for free, some going on to shoot whole campaigns or walking in shows, all paid. Networking with likeminded individuals is such a crucial part of this industry, and taking part in trade shoots is the best way to do it!

Melissa, who gets booked often with Joe Browns headed over to the sunny city where she enjoyed a few days or warmth as well as working too!
She is booked with Joe Browns for their seasonal wear so when they asked us to check if she was available for their summer shoot overseas we were thrilled for her!

It wasn't long before we were receiving behind the scenes shots from Melissa of her hotel and the beach!
As jealous as we were, it's a great opportunity for our models and we are always grateful to our clients for returning to us time and time again.

Models will always come and go. We have represented talent from young ages and watched them blossom into successful adults.
A young trio who have been with us from the start of their career are the Wealleans children - Chloe, Cole and Cleo.
Chloe is the oldest of the three at 16 and has recently just joined our new faces section on our adult board. She has been working with photographers on building her new adult portfolio to appeal to more clients.
As well as modelling Chloe is a keen singer. She travels across the country singing in open mic competitions and Teen Star National where she showcases her amazing voice!
At just 13 years old, Cole has already decided on his career and is taking steps to achieve it. He recently starred in a new Peter and Wendy film based on Peter Pan where he played one of The Lost Boys.
For this role he had to cut his signature afro hair. However he didn't mind getting the chop as he wanted to give the locks to a charity who specialises in making wigs for children suffering hair loss.
He has also taken part in little extra roles including work in The Dumping Ground.
Cleo is the youngest but by no means any less talented. She is catching up with her brother in regards to TV appearances as she just recently landed a role in Virgin's TV commercial with a group of other 8/9 years olds. Her cheeky smile is contagious and she always has bundles of energy of shoots which livens up the day.

It has helped many women across the globe to start exercising and becoming a better version of themselves.
The Numbers
The campaign has already helped over 2.8 million women to embrace physical exercise and now the goal is to encourage even more women to lead active lives.
We have watched young women to senior adults take part in the incredible movement and it even features women with disabilities too.

Even though the campaign is based around a sports background, we're sure you will agree that since it's launch there has been a worldwide change where the ladies are empowering the globe.
Diversity always has been and always will be a passion close to our hearts and we love the new direction that marketing campaigns are taking.
