This time of year is all about weddings and love.
So we were thrilled when we were asked to attend The North East Wedding Fair at the end of January which was held at Metro Radio Arena.
The venue held around 100 wedding themed stalls and the catwalk which our models graced so effortlessly.

The team of models we provided was made up of Charlie, Ashley, Louise, Faye, Melissa, Nathan and Fergus.
The makeup sponsor was ND makeup and the hair sponsor was Show Beauty.

Our gorgeous girls and guys showcased a range of bridal and occasion wear from all stores and suppliers you could think of that are based in the North East.
It ranged from dresses and suits from Debenhams to outfits supplied by Monsoon.

We supplied a team of dressers to help change the models and help our client make the show run as smoothly as possible.
The models were featured in all scenes so the dressers had to be reliable and stay focused.
Obviously Tyne Tees Models delivered!

"Mature models have always been a huge part of Tyne Tees Models and what we are for. As a lifestyle agency of 23 years, our range of clients and their brands is huge. Women over 50 years old happen to be a massive proportion of this area of work.

Never are we too old!
When discussing with a client on what models to book for a recent campaign to be shot in Tuscany, I encouraged them that our mature section would be the best fit for their brand. It turns out the shoot was so incredibly successful that they are now considering another one!
The realness aspect and authenticity of the models was the perfect match for their brand, promoting confidence, active seniors and young at heart individuals.
I believe that the generation of 60 years plus have prepared much better and have a better disposable income now than 20 years ago. Society now encourages mature people to look after themselves more."

Authenticity, after all, is the holy grail of brand building.
Authentic storytelling
Tyne Tees Models are known for their expertise and experience in authentic storytelling for their clients. For Tyne Tees, a client's success is their success so understanding client objectives, client messages and how to best to deliver that message is key.
The first job of Tyne Tees Models is therefore to prescribe the right models and actors. Not the prettiest or the most handsome – the right ones.
And this is why a recent survey by Lloyds Banking Group was so interesting to me and to Tyne Tees Models. The survey was conducted in late 2016 and highlighted by Campaign online in December 2016.
Are we aligned?
The survey headline? Less than 20% of UK ads feature ethnic minorities.
Disgraceful! Or is it?
It is these attention grabbing headlines that normally bring the gasps and the cries of injustice from the all-too-soon-to-criticise. But when we align this statistic with the fact that 86% of the UK classed themselves as ‘white’ in the last census (2011), the mood shifts.
20% is, in fact, a slight over representation.
So let's look a little closer and include some more useful context. As you will read, accurate representation by modelling and casting agencies is really poor in some key areas.
This same report also found less than 1% of people featured in ads were visibly disabled compared to 17.9% of people in the UK having a disability. Authenticity takes a pummelling here.
Similarly, 25% of UK adults are single parents but they are represented in just 0.29% of ads (according to ONS statistics from 2014). Again, not good.

The report then focused on how a more representative approach in advertising would go down with consumers.
Just under two-thirds of respondents (65%) said they would feel more favourable about a brand that reflected diversity in advertising. And over two-thirds (67%) of respondents expected an advertiser to represent diverse aspects of society.
When consumers were asked if they thought that advertising portrayed them accurately, the scores got worse with age.
While 54% of those aged 25 to 34 felt the most represented, only 41% of people aged over 65 agreed. So it would seem that the older we get, the more ignored we feel by business and advertising.

The Lloyds Banking Group online survey covered 1,340 TV and press ads. It was large, legitimate and it was conducted very recently. So it is worth paying at least some attention to.
Tyne Tees models values inclusivity and authenticity highly, and so should you.
It’d seem that consumers really do want to see advertisers cast people they can relate to in the stories that they tell, and we shouldn’t really be surprised. Surely we can all relate to people like us better than a caricature.
So if you’re a business or brand in Northern England or Scotland with a great story to tell, get the casting bit right too. Call Tyne Tees Models.

Cast your minds back about a year when North East Times was still a pretty new magazine on the scene.
The beautiful fashion spread had a gorgeous red theme where she wore clothing in different shades of the vivid colour.

The images were taken by photographer Chris Owen and styled by Hayley from Jules B. On hair and makeup was the creative Shaun Lavender whose work is now being recognised Internationally.
All of the shots in the glossy spread showcased the latest trends and fashion which still looks great today.

Most recently we have placed our very own Grace with a Swedish agency for any bookings for her with their clients.
We sent her profile over to them and they loved her that much they asked to check her availability for one their clients straight away.
So it'll be no surprise if you happen to see Grace featured across a Scandinavian billboard.

We were avidly watching the Menswear 2017 shows at the start of the year and aside from the leather and Puffa jackets dominating the runway, we’ve noticed a trend emerging amongst the talent too — millennial models!
![]() |

Whilst the term has sparked some discussion, millennials can be defined as “The generation of babies born in the 1980’s to late 1990’s.”
Now that we know this, when looking back over 2016, it’s fair to say that it was known as the year of the millennials!

From Kendall Jenner fronting the cover of Vogue’s September Issue to Bella Hadid making her debut as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Then to top it off Gigi Hadid being named Model of the Year 2016 at the British Fashion Awards, millennials have been at the forefront of the modelling industry recently.
More recently, we saw a flurry of fresh faces for Dolce and Gabbana’s AW17 Menswear show in Milan. The Italian Fashion House opened the show with Vine star Cameron Dallas walking to a live presentation from singer Austin Mahone.

Promoting the show with hashtags such as #DGMillennials and with their ‘Break the Internet Casting', it’s no surprise that D&G have the fashion world talking.

Each month we ask one of our models to come into our office and help us give an insight into what it means to be a Tyne Tees Model.
This month we spoke to Lyndon Longhorne.
An aspiring Paralympic swimmer, entrepreneur, full time student, and part time model. We chatted with him about his aspirations and how he manages to balance his personal endeavours and his modelling career.
Name: Lyndon
Born: 1995
Time With Tyne Tees: 2 Months
Brands worked for: SolStock, UnparaLLeled Fitness, work with multiple photographers.
What do you enjoy most about modelling?: I really enjoy the fact that you're always doing something different. Whether it's in a studio environment or working outside in different weather conditions or inside on a family shoot. It can be anything. I especially enjoy it if it's sports related, where my main passions lie.
What is your career highlight to date?: I think my biggest achievement would be setting up my own business. I've managed to balance my intense training with having my own business and additionally some modelling work. It's all busy busy busy!
Do you feel like you've been on a job or event that you feel has exceeded expectations and been a success?: I feel like every shoot so far has gone quite well. I think I've really connected with the clients which is great because if you connect with them, it makes producing the work that they're looking for so much easier.
What would your dream modelling job be?: Can I say for my own brand? I'd just like to see what comes in the future. Of course going for high-end, luxury fashion brands would be a massive achievement.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into the industry?: I would say it's not just for the generic models, like those you see in Next or Primark. It's also about how you feel and and what messages you want to deliver. So whether you have a disability and you want to increase diversity in the modelling industry or you just want to get out there for the fashion side, I'd just say give it a go!

All new models will find themselves nervous on their first assignment. Sometimes a little guidance and advice is all you need to relax and calm your nerves.
Model and ex-Miss Newcastle Vicky Turner gave us some tips and tricks to take into consideration.
Whether you are new to the modelling game or have been here for a few years, the below list is always going to be helpful.
![]() |
Fergus |
1. Having fresh hair and skin for a shoot is essential. Don’t turn up with layers of fake tan on as it can not only damage the clothes but it can be difficult to light.
2. Before going to a shoot make sure you have read the brief thoroughly. If you are unsure about anything don’t hesitate to contact the agency.
3. Don’t wear tight clothes, skinny jeans and tight tops will often leave impressions on the skin and create more work for the photographer post shoot in editing.
4. Make sure you are wearing the correct underwear. If it isn’t specified, the safest option is to turn up with nude underwear on.
5. Follow up shoots where you can. Feedback is always great from the agency and can help with advice for future bookings.

6. Eat healthily before a shoot to stop yourself feeling sluggish. Make sure you take lots of snacks and water just in case food isn’t provided on a full day. It isn't always provided so make sure you are prepared.
7. Try and get to a shoot ten or fifteen minutes early to introduce yourself to everyone and give time for the set up.
8. Network as much as possible, being friendly and approachable is key to making contacts in the industry.
9. If you’re uncertain of a shoot location and are making your own way there, try and do a dummy run a week or so before.
10. Practise, practise, practise! It sounds cliché but pose in the mirror and walk in a long corridor to build up your confidence. Flick through magazines to look at poses, don’t copy them exactly but use them as inspiration.
