TOP 10 MODELLING MOMENTS OF 2016

There’s no argument that 2016 has been an eventful year full of unanswered questions and political disputes. However one thing is certain, there’s been progress in the modelling industry. To sum up we’ve created our top 10 inspirational and promising modelling moments of 2016 from the industry.

Diversity On The Runway

As reported in The Fashion Spot’s Annual Report, September’s SS17 Fashion Week Shows proved to be the most diverse fashion month yet with regards to race, size, disability, age and gender.

Nura Afia for CoverGirl

Beauty brand Covergirl selected Muslim beauty blogger, Nura Afia, to be one of the representatives of its So Lashy! mascara campaign. The mascara is designed to work on all lash types, and to represent this the brand has chosen a variety of cover girls and boys from different ethnicities, religions and sizes.

James Charles for CoverGirl

In October, CoverGirl announced their first ever male cover girl, James Charles, who will also front their So Lashy Campaign. The brand stated “all of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful.”

Ashley Graham’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Plus Size models have also received more acknowledgement in 2016. In February Ashley Graham was made the first plus size model to ever grace the front cover of the ‘Sports Illustrated’ Swimsuit Issue. As a campaigner for body positivity, Graham has held Ted Talks, appeared in New York Fashion Week and even had a body-positive Barbie doll modelled after her.

Actress/Model Hari Nef for Mansur Gavriel

In early May, Mansur Gabriel announced model Hari Nef their first high-profile face for the minimalist label. The well known LGBT activist and rising runway star has walked for the likes of Gucci, Hood by Air and H&M.

Iris Apfel for Aigner

It’s no secret that at Tyne Tees Models we love classic models. So of course when we saw Iris Apfel modelling for Aigner we were hooked. Modelling for their AW16 campaign, 94 Year Old  Iris doesn't look out of place at all.

Victoria Secret un-retouched Fantasy Bra photos.

For all of the criticism Victoria Secret has received in the past, this year the brand has finally shown a more honest approach to their advertising, releasing images of Jasmine Tookes modelling the 2016 Fantasy Bra.

Kate Moss Inc.

2016 marked the moment that Supermodel Kate Moss left IMG Models and launched her own talent agency Kate Moss Inc. We can’t wait to see what talent emerges from the company!

Secret Deodorant Ladies Room.

Following the number of anti-transgender bathroom bills in different states across America, Secret Deodorant’s latest #StressTest advertising campaign works to empower women. It features a young transgender woman working up the courage to leave the toilet cubicle and face other women in a public toilet. The tagline reads, “Dana finds courage to show there’s no wrong way to be a woman.”

H&M She’s a Lady Campaign

The term ‘Lady’ may evoke pretty outdated connotations however H&M’s latest campaign gives the term an updated twist, portraying the virtues of the modern women. Played to the soundtrack of Lion Babe’s 'She’s a Lady' remake, the campaign features women of all races, sizes, shapes and style. Starring models such as Hari Nef, Adwoa Aboah, and Heather, plus actress Lauren Hutton, and boxer Fatima Pinto. Talk about girl power!
